Jungle Trip Adventure
Aventura en la Amazonia Peruana
Day 1
- Depart from Pucallpa at 9:00 a.m. by motor boat to the village of Puerto Nuevo, this will take approximately six hours. On the way we will stop for a quick snack of about thirty minutes.
- Arriving at the village we will first visit the sleeping hut where you will have a chance to freshen up before going to greet the villagers as they welcome you to their home. After this we will have a meal in the communal kitchen.
-Dinner will also be available later in the evening for those who would like it.
Please note the food that will be served by the women of the village is the same food that they themselves eat, this mainly consists of fish, plantin, yucca, rice, fruit and herbal tea. If there are any special diets please let us know in advance.
Day 2
- Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. We will then visit the Botanical garden with the guidance of the Shamans. Here we will collect the plants that will be needed for the herbal bath and steam as well as the Ayahuasca brew in preparation of the evenings healing ceremony, two ways in which we will be able to cleanse and purify ourselves in a magical way.
- Lunch. After lunch we will continue with the herbal bath and steam treatments.
May I point out here that it is the Shamans who will be taking the ayahuasca to aid them with the healing, it is not necessary to digest any of it yourselves. However if you would like to take ayahuasca I would strongly recommend it, this is the essence of the jungle and an experience that is truly life changing for those who are willing.
Dinner at 6:00 p.m. Following dinner there will begin an ayahuasca healing session at 8:00p.m. It is recommeded to not have dinner for those who will take the ayahuasca brew.
Day 3
Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. After breakfast there will be an opportunity to vist the primary school of the village and share with the children who are curious about where are the visitors coming from.
- Lunch.
- - Later in the afternoon we will take the boat up the river to find the mystical river dolphins as the sun sets over the Ucayali.
- Dinner and rest.
Day 4
- Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. After breakfast there will be an opportunity to view the Shipibo handicraft (textiles, potteries and jewellary), as well being able to purchase it you will also be able to see how it is made. The handicraft, produced by the women of the village, is one of their main sources of income and a key component in the dynamics of the village.
- Lunch.
- In the afternoon there will be an excursion in the boat across the lake by the village. The grassy bank on the other side is a great place to relax. The depths of the lake contain a nutrient rich clay that is wonderful to smother over your body before washing it off in the sun heated waters.
- On our return there will be more herbal baths and steams available for those who would like to complete a full days treatment of Shipibo pampering.
- Dinner at 6:00 p.m. Following dinner there will begin an ayahuasca healing session at 8:00p.m. It is recommeded to not have dinner for those who will take the ayahuasca brew.
Day 5
Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. We will then pack our bags for the next day and begin the hike to the Ashaninka settlement by the Iparia stream, the hike will take approximately three hours. Grimaldo and Rosa will be there to meet us and guide us, here we have another sleeping hut where we will spend the next two nights. Grimaldo, an Ashaninka, will then show us the medicinal and botanical plants, his knowledge of the plants is substantial and widely respected by the Shipibos, it also offers us a different insight into their use and application
- Lunch
- Rest and relaxation for the afternoon and maybe a paddle in the stream.Rosa will prepare her version of the herbal baths and steam for the afternoon.
- Dinner and rest.
Day 6
- Breakfast at 7:00 a.m. After breakfast we will return back to the Shipibo village, again this hike will take approximately three hours.
- Lunch and relaxation in the Shipibo village.
then we suggest you to to prepare yourself for the Ayahuasca ceremony at nigh which will be your last one for this jungle journey expedition
Day 7
- Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. After saying good-bye to the village we take the boat back to Pucallpa, the return journey will be slightly quicker as we travel with the current of the river.
- Check into the hotel, lunch, rest.

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES
There is a local comitte comprised of the most respected members of the village, they directly take care of all the benefits that each group of visitors bring to the village so that the entire community is able to prosper and not just a few. The income that comes from each group is invested in important tools such as big fishing nets or wood saws that will allow the villageto compete against the commercial fishing and timber companies who deplete the natural resources of the area taking as much as they want, often by unethical means, and leaving little left for the village. The Masha Association are also able to purchase medicinal, educational and other supplies that are essential to the village. In this way our Jungle Trips are not a charity organization to 'help the Indians' as if they were people unable to decide by themselves what they would like in their future
ACCOMODATION & FOOD
The basic accommodation is as follows: 4 huts, (3 are for resting and 1 for the Ayahuasca and Healing sessions) there are 3 latrines , there are 2 shower baths (using barrels of water), also, there is plenty of potable drinking water. There is no electric light. Oil burners are used in the evenings. We stay in wooden cabins like those of the villagers and all the beds have mosquito nets for extra protection. The food is prepared and served by the women of the village who cook in the communal kitchen. The three meals a day mainly consist of fish, yucca, rice, plantin, fruit and herbal tea as this is the food that the villagers themselves eat.
SPIRITUAL HEALING & AYAHUASCA
We consider your time in the jungle as an excellent opportunity to allow your body to heal and we also include many treatments prepared by the Shamans such as herbal baths and steams that help you to do this. Combined with the naturally grown and prepared food, we hope
that you will leave the jungle feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and with a heightened perspective of the beauty and delicacy of our Pachamama (mother earth).
Our trips to the jungle will give a genuine insight to the Amazonian way of life and a greater understanding of the impact everyone of us has on the jungle.We hope that our journey is as much an internal voyage as an external one and in maintaining an authentic jungle experience we offer Ayahuasca sessions as part of the trip.

AYAHAUSCA HISTORY, USE & DIETARY INFORMATION
Ayahuasca has been used by shamans and healers in South America for hundreds, if not thousands of years to contact the spirit world, heal sickness of both the mind & body and to keep in balance with nature. The word Ayahuasca is from the Quechua language and translates as vine of the soul. Ayahuasca is traditionally prepared using the the harmala containing vine Banisteriopsis caapi and the DMT containing leaves of Psychotria viridis or Diplopterys Cabrerana. The method of preparation varies but generally the material is put into a water filled pot and boiled for a number of hours until only a small amount of liquid is left to drink. The harmaline/harmine in the Vine acts as an Mono Amine Oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) allowing the DMT in the leaves to become orally active.
This is vital as DMT is broken down quickly by the body and without an MAOI, the brew would be ineffective.
Our guides for the jungle, medicinal baths and ayahuasca sessions will be : Prudencio, Don Antonio, Doña Carmen, Don Carlos, Rosa , Cesar and Adolfo.
THINGS TO BRING
We suggest you to bring with you a good mosquito repellent, (DEET based products are usually the best) anti-itch cream, long sleeve t-shirts and long trousers. Sunglasses, sun block, rubber boots, zip lock bags for cameras & so on, This will be very useful for the jungle expeditions. If you want to contribute to the village school, you can bring notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, painting material, rulers, erasers, white boards, maps & so on.
IS THIS FOR ME?
The life of the village is communally orientated and if you are someone who might see this as more of a disturbance then we'd suggest that you might prefer to take a different style of jungle tour such as the ones where you stay in a jungle lodge away from the interaction of the locals. (There are many options online that might be quite good .) As guests of the village we are their neighbours and it is not uncommon to be visited by them often first thing in the morning. It is also very common that the local radio-communication operators play loud music from 5-6 am as it is at that time that the people wake up in the village.
As a final note, our Jungle Trips are not for everybody. We have no aspirations to take a different group every week. We are going to organize 3 jungle journeys yearly, each group ranges from 3 people to a maximum of 8.
We prefer to focus on the qualities of a person as opposed to the quantity of the people. So if you consider yourself a positive and enthusiastic person who is open to experience a jungle journey of the mind, body and spirit, we welcome you and look forward to communicating with you ivery soon.
